I don't think so man. IIRC they have to physically be on the spot because doing it that way is saying they will be the primary drivers and you will be a secondary or only occaisional driver of the rental.

you can rent a nice new full size truck (F150)or mini truck (ranger) from uhaul where they could care less how old you are. $20 a day plus insurance and cost of mileage. wont be as "luxurious" but will be new, have ac and will roll! other than that, you maaay be able to talk your way into at a rental car company but its pretty tough. i had sucess and failure at this when i was your age. pain in the a$$ until youre about 25. i HATE dealing with rental car companies, even now.

When I was 19, I rented a U-Haul truck, no questions asked. I spent no more than 5 minutes in the store getting the keys. We hot-boxed the sh*t out of it when I was done moving too. Just get one of those.

Sounds cool to me , although Im going to feel like a jackass walking into the Uhaul place, but meh, theyll get their money and thats what theyre out for. Otherwise this all sounds pretty bleak, and I hate rental car companies with a passion now. In New York there was a lawsuit which legally extablished the age at 18.

Not the Enterprise down the street from me. They ROCK!! No fees if you're under 25, and they're dirt cheap! There are alot of people who complain that Enterprise never has your car class in stock.. I see that as a good thing. Every time I go, I get a better car than what I pay for. Last time I paid for a compact ($30 a day) and got an Impala (if I had waited another 10 minutes, I coulda gotton a Buick).

I'm sure 100% of kids your age would take care of the rental car . Most kids your age (I'm guilty of this too) will be the snot out of the thing. People over 25 are supposed to be more mature.

So it cuts losses for them...

just like insurance rates!

I don't believe that there is truly statistical basis to support this. However, since it has been accepted as "truth", nobody challenges it.

Statistically, people over 75 get into as many accidents as teenagers. Yet they get reduced insurance and frequently reduced rental car rates...

I believe all senior discounts are wrong and discriminatory. There would be lawsuits if someone gave white people a 10% discount.

This is so true it's almost scary. My grandfather (who recently passed away) had a 2002 VW Golf that he bought new. In the past 3 years or so of him having the car I think he got in 4 fender-benders? We're not really sure because he wouldn't admit it, and didn't tell it to the insurance company. Yet even with 4 at fault-accidents on his record (1 or 2 from the previous car) he was paying about $600 a year for full coverage on his car, at age 90.

Oh, I forgot to add: Most older people aren't going to see the tables turned as they have groups like the AARP lobying for them, and they pretty much all vote. Who is going to bat for young people?

Actually numerous studies have all reached the conclusion that people over the age of 65 get into more accidents than those under the age of 25. And, on top of that, because of their age, the accidents they cause have greater chance of injury and significantly greater chance of a fatality.

So, the reason young people pay high rates isn't entirely because of their liklihood of getting into an accident -- it's to subsidize the older people. You'll notice that as the population as gotten older the gap between 'normal' rates and 'teenage' rates has gotten bigger and bigger. While cars have gotten more expensive to repair, 'teenage' rates have still risen at a rate far exceeding 'normal' rates even while their rate of getting into an accident hasn't significantly changed.

On the same note, female teenage drivers still pay less than male teenage drivers even though studies have shown that they cause more accidents. While 25 years ago they did not, as the prevalence towards bad habits while driving has increased (drinking coffee, applying make-up, cell-phones, etc) accidents caused by women have far eclipsed accidents caused by men. But they still pay less.
