Hi all! I did a search for this and didnt come up with anything, so if anyone could give me some info or point me towards a thread that tells me what size the nuts are which hold the catalytic converter to the tailpipe are. Got under there with a 15 mm wrench and noticed it had just a slight amount of slack... is 15mm the correct size or am I looking at 9/16 or 5/8? I unfortunately didnt bring my wrenches to school with me and want to buy a 6 point deep well socket instead and I would like to know which size to get so that I do not round the nuts off... that would be bad.... thank you guys all for the help!

I think I used a 5/8 on mine. I could be mistaken though. It has been a while...

Just to let all you guys know and to put this into the archives so people can search later, I found out that the exhaust nuts are 15 mm. However, one of the studs broke off in the middle of me taking it apart, but there appears to be enough thread left to start a new nut on the stud, so I am thinking about leaving it be.... smart idea? I think it will hold and I have heard pressing it out is a PITA..... should I get this done anyways? Nobody seems to have these studs..... but anyways, thanks guys for your help.

Ok, guys... here is the update.... first of all, drove the car with no muffler or tailpipe around campus while I am waiting for my Borla to come in..... loud and obnoxious but the more I pondered it, the more I thought it a waste to spend all that money on a good Borla kit and install it on a broken stud. So, I crawled back underneath the car and pulled the cat completely out to get fresh new studs and nuts installed- will go to a machine shop soon and get this done, as no muffler shop around here seems to want to touch it. When it all comes down to it, no matter how excited I may get over having a bit better torque, I always want to end up doing things once and doing them right. Simply saying I have a Borla will not do... but saying and knowing that I did quality work seems much better to me. Peace

Yeah that's right. If you want things done right, and with quality you often need to do them yourself. I find that I am always cleaning up the work that shops have done for me... It's just like cleaning the car! - I can't stand not having it perfect, even though I am the only one that can actually see the blemishes!

Ok guys.... Borla kit is on the way. Taurus hanger is in, along with isolator, and a copy of Patrick Kennedy's bracket is on the way. However, a few things bother me about the hanger installation.... unanswered questions.... First of all, to anyone who has done this mod.... it looks like once on the Contour, the Taurus hanger will sit quite a bit closer to the bumper than the stock driver's side. It would seem to me that this would cause the exhaust to hang unevenly. I am hoping that I am wrong on that and that somehow the correct distance is compensated for. Will it be normal to see the one isolater hang crooked and is this any major threat to the longevity of my system? Are there even any crude pictures or drawings (if not good ones) of this hanger installed or am I just going to have to do this by feel? Mr. Kennedy's article was very useful, but now I would like to know what the finished install looks like to assure that mistakes are avoided. ANY info that anyone could supply me on this would be appreciated. I hope to get this done by this weekend when the Borla comes in. Thanks once again guys!
