Derek,
Couple of points (as prelude to debates #2 & #3)..
Health care is the US regardless of ranking is #1...as evidenced by the fact than anyone who is anyone comes to the US for care.

About costs...concider that malpractice insurance costs are higher in the US than any other country on the planet. Estimates range between about 25% and 35% of ALL healthcare costs are malpractice driven...cost of insurance and costs of defensive medicine. Should I remind you that the 2 democracts looking for Bush's job are TRIAL lawyers (with edwards being a malpractice specialist) who are backed by the trial lawyers association.

About getting cheaper drugs from Canada. Drugs are cheap in Canada because they are generic drugs that incur no research & development costs. US pharmacuetical companies lead the world by far in new drug patents and the R&D costs (which can amount to a billion per drug) are born by us. Further, FDA approval is typically manditory for a lawsuit against the drug...as an example, the new lawsuits over Vioxx over increased heart attack risk are going to cost Merck billions. We start buying drugs from canada as Kerry has proposed, we will 1) gut US pharm company profits (and jobs), 2) kill the ability to do research, 3) lose the FDA protection..(no lawsuits..I am wondering if Kerry cleared this with triallawyers ass).

Finally, consider that Hillary Clinton proposed nearly the same plan 10 years ago with a dem house & senate. Socilaized mecicine failed then and would be likely to do so again under Kerry with republicans in congress....Wheras Bush actually did revise Medicare for the first time in 20+ years to include a precription drug program.

MAKE NO MISTAKE, KERRY SAYS ABOUT ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED..and thats it. His lackluster 20 years in Senate accomplished nothing. How many bills dd he introduce or that carry his name on healthcare? On intell spending? Only remnents of Kerrys record are failed bills to gut intel.

A few points Bush COULD make on Oct 13..I wish he would speak up!

Overall, I was disappointed in Bush.

Kerry left openings big enough to drive a truck through.
1) The global test..."sir, what global test are you refering to? We had the UN support in the first gulf war, and you voted against the coalition anyway despite Sadam invading another country!"

2) the 87 billion...."sir, that was your VOTE not some misspoke. You tried to forcibly tie your tax increase adjenda to a vote for needed military equipment and when you failed, you betrayed our troups by voting against the bill for spite".

3) Kerrys 4 point plan..."its the same as MINE!.we are using NATO to train Iraqis, we are getting a larger UN group to montor elections, and at least 3 summits are being arranged"

It goes on. Talk about our sucess with Pakistan killing hundreds of Al Queda, (remember they were supporting Taliban when our coalition was in Afganistan) and breaking up AQ Khans nuclear network..he said this but spell it out, its links to N.Korea, Libya, etc. He did pretty good pointing out the inconsistancies of Kerry's "wrong war wrong time yet still asking troups to die in battle in Iraq, and insulting the contributions of Allawi and are allies.

One big thing the Pres could not say (but surely wanted to) was the new congressional report on oil for food, which apparently points a strong finger at France, Germany, China, and UN senior officials in influencing the vote to go to war. We are still on delicate ground trying to get cooporation now and we cannot DIRECTLY hit them with this, and they knwo it. But Kerry has so tied himself to the UN, an unvieling of the level of corruption and its influence on our security would be devastating for him.

Kerry was a good styalistic debator, but remained devoid of a plan or a backbone. Bush looked annoyed & tired..though later I learned that the day of the debate, while Kerry was getting his nails done, Bush was surveying Hurrican damage for 10 hours. He did us no favors and I am a bit peeved at him for making us worry about Kerry for another month when he could have destroyed him...

GOP is being a sore loser.

Take a look at the source, not the most credible!

Uh, I was able to conclude he violated the rules of the debate by watching the video. Is Kerry the uncredible source you're talking about? How could the man breaking the rules be an uncredible source?

Is this the only thread you've posted in?

You can't prove anything, could have ben a pen. A BLANK piece of paper. They both WROTE NOTES.

These are just typical GOP tactics, they won't admit they lost.

Writing notes was allowed. Any good debater takes notes. Paper and pens were furbished and no foreign objects including pens or paper were allowed to be brought in. There's no reason why anyone would need to hide a folded piece of paper in their jacket and attempt to clandestinely utilize it in order to "take notes".

Read the article. The rules say anything you need for the debate (paper, pen, etc.) would be placed on the podium before the debate began. In other words (because I think you need them), it was a violation of the debate rules to bring anything other than your rehearsed smile and bright amber glow to the podium. Even if it was a piece of paper that said "Don't do what Algore did", it was a violation of the debate rules.

And the GOP hasn't said anything about this, so I wouldn't call this 'GOP tactics'.
