Can be blamed on oil starvation or cavitation. Running 120 MPH plus for several minutes, a few blasts to 130-140, then severe nose over when it spun. Most likely I did not have the oil drain back line at a high enough angle to get the oil back to the pan quick enough from the SC. I had a small oil leak too (drain back connection at the pan), but was still over full (6 quarts) at the time of the failure. Thinking the extra in the SC and return line acted much like the SVT oil cooler in slowing down the return flow. Should have run a little more angle and a little more oil.
Shoulda coulda woulda...

IIRC the Cougar guys problems came about because the person he had to do the tuning on his car, adjusted the cam timing with the sprockets on the car and got things too far off...so he bent all of his valves among other things....

The 3.0L costs an arm and a leg to get put in. It's cheaper in the end to get a S/C.

What is the word on the people that sent the s/c back to vortech?

Are they just sending another one back or are the "re-engineering" it?

My SC cost me $3,1XX including battery relocation, try to get that deal again. Installed by myself. Installation would have cost me an hourly rate for a minimum of 12 hours (per Vortech install sheet, ya, right, more like 20 hours) at $65 per hour = $780-$1300

Total of $3880-$4100

My 3 liter cost less than $800 rebuilt ($525 delivered full engine assembly, $125 for gaskets rings and mains are another $125 which I didn't need), installed by myself. Ford gets in the neighborhood of 12 hours for the engine transplant. $66 per hour = $792 plus tax, 4 hours to swap over your old engine parts if you rebuild the 3 liter short block yourself = $264, 6 hours to disassemble and reassemble 3 liter if they do it = $396

Total = $1963 installed and rebuilt at a Ford dealership.

It adds up the other way around.. Add some knowhow in there and save a bundle on each, but the parts are still much cheaper than the SC way. Not as much HP as the SC though... wink
