So, I have seen some people who have done some paint on the valve cover... Like painted the "16V Zetec" label, or something... What would be required to do this?

High temp engine paint.
Get a can in what ever color you want,
and get a can of high temp clear coat.
You can (but don't have to) sand the cover and then prime it.

do I just put masking tape around what I want to paint? Any Special procedure? Or just spray paint on, dry, then clearcoat?

Several years ago I painted the IMRC cover on my V6. I started out masking off the silver "DURATEC" letters but that was very hard so I ended up coating the letters lightly with Vaseline.

I sprayed the entire cover and then just scraped off the paint from the surface of the lettering after it was dry. With the Vaseline undercoat it came off pretty easily. Then I used a toothpick dipped in paint to touch up corners around the letters where the paint didn't stick.

I recall taking off my cover to put on a new seal.
I would say it was not hard, but it does take some
time to wrench them bults off. It might not be a bad
idea to buy a new valve cover seal before taking it off.

I need to take mine off and paint it because the paint is
coming off around the oil cap. I guess it gets to hot in-
side my car? I have thought about taping everthing up and
using paper all over the engine to do a light spray on just
that area because I've feeling lazy... then again who in the
heck wants to look at my engine?

you want something along the lines of this..

I had to remove the UIM to do this, its alot easier, but as log as you tape everything off, and i mean EVERYTHING, you should be fine. I used Dupli-Color high heat engine enamel... You can get it at autozone or whereever for like $4.00

Dupli-Color high heat engine enamel like the other guy said is some good stuff. I'm going to do mine in 6 months when I get my tax return and pay of the credit card.

yeah, that thing looks dead sexy... How did you get it to gloss over like that? do I have to do anything before to prep the valve cover for paint? I was thinking about looking for a bone yard cover for cheap with low miles and using that to try my little project on... So If I ruin it, not a huge deal. I have never done ANY paint work before, so this is a complete shot in the dark for me.
