i remember my friend and his girl went as 30's gangsters. they had pin striped suits, suspenders, greased back hair, tiny moustaches and tommy guns. you gotta have the right stuff though or it wont look as good.
anothr couple went as a priest and nun. he had a blunt and flask in each hand and she was pregnant (for real). nothing like seeing a pregnant nun!
one of the most creative i have seen was at our own halloween party. some guy came dressed as a biker. he had full on biker clothes, long hair, torn jeans, boots, tats, sunglasses, beard, etc... but the key part was he had a set of Harley handlebars attached to his belt so when he grabbed them it looked like he was ridin'. he even had a custom cup holder on the bars to hold his Corona! 
He won the $100 in our costume contest (big party).

it's a toss up b/w th eslim jim guy or a functional keg. i have the slim jim costume already from a few years ago, but i think that getting an empty keg to cut in half would be more fun
