same code PO171.

Today at school we used the Snap On scan tool, IAT, ECT, both O2 sensors, MAF are all working correctly.
I have replaced several vacuum lines, inspected the line that goes from the top of engine to the air filter box.
The upstream O2 sensor was replaced twice so far, MAF cleaned a few times.

The Snap On tool was showing bank 1 was pretty lean, bank 2 is fine.

When the light came on I was getting on the highway, it was hard to accelerate, had to really hit the pedal to get it going.

Anyone have any idea what to do next, if I could find the hose that has the PCV valve in it, I would inspect it, I cant find out where it is now, I replaced the valve once forgot where it is.

anyway, if the O2 sensor wasn't OEM or of equal quality it will cause problems

these cars are sensitive to everything....

so its right isn't it...

see what I said above, also if it wasn't installed right, ie, not screwed all the way in or was left grease/oil from a hand making contact with the sensor that could cause a problem

Well the O2 sensor was switching back and forth like it should.

Also when I installed it I was very careful not to touch the tip of it.

well the only other thing I can think of is there is unmetered air getting into the system, on the V6 you would get the lean code for both banks, but since its a Zetec then maybe this is what it is if the O2 sensor is working fine

I could have sworn that my mothers 99 threw a 171 and we replaced the O2 sensor but I am not sure as it was awhile ago

So your thinking the intake manifold gasket?

I did think that for a while to, but after searching some people have said that there idle isnt right, it goes up and down (if I read it correctly). My idle is fine.

I have to find that PCV valve hose, does anyone have a photo of it?

Also while reading www.carsurvey.com many people have said their CEL is always wrong and that it meant nothing because nothing was wrong with the car, it was just giving out a false code, do you think that could be possible?

thanks for any help

By the way 190 miles on half a tank of gas currently, so whatever it is isnt effecting my mileage much.

How hard do you drive? I just hit 256 on half a tank. A bad O2 sensor can affect gas mileage in a bad way.

that is crazy, I have been driving mostly highway recently and I get around 200 at half tank, but I cruise around 70-75
