Alas,

My need for extreme HP combined with my own taste for good looks is getting the best of me again these days. I'm thinking seriously of picking up something exactly like this:

346ci SS

Car Options:
Leather
ASR
CD Player (replaced by a Pioneer DEH 7200 Headunit)
Rear Window Defroster
All power options

Powertrain
These mods have ONLY been on the car for 2 months.
LS6 Stage 2 Heads
240/246 .608/.613 110 LSA (SpeedDemon tuned it very well, can run AC constantly, idles like a champ for everyday driving here on campus)
New dual valvesprings, Pushrods, retainers
Moser 12 Bolt (4.11 Gears, 33 Spline Axles, Diff Cover, Posi, 1350)
Kooks 1 7/8 Longtube headers and y-pipe
Custom Steel Driveshaft from Northwest Drivetrain in Houston
Fully Rebuilt T-56 with Hardened shiftforks and Ti synchros (done last week)
BMR Adj. Torque Arm
BRAND NEW Chrome 18" C5 Wheels
Freshly Re-Charged AC

Suspension:
HAL 12 Way Adjustable Shocks
HAL Drag Springs
BMR Tubular A-Arms
BMR Tubular K-memeber

NGK TR55
Taylor 8mm Wires
Borla

Appearance:
Clear Corners
Silver ZL1 Hoodstripe
Silver Rear Camaro Fill ins
New Wheels
New 285-35-18 Sumitomo HTRZ out back and 275-35-18 Dunlop SP9000 up front

For a Crapmaro, that's a sweet car.

Mind you with what I know about those cars from working with GM Powertrain, I wouldn't buy one myself.

Engineering aside, the interiors suck arse too.

If I had the thirst for a V8 it'd be a GTO, Cobra or a Lexus GS400

As a former SS owner, I can say that the weakest link in the F-Body lineup was the 10 bolt rear, and the stock clutch. The T-56 tranny is pretty stout. The LS1 engine can take a ton of abuse. Luckily, most guys that have done up their F-Body cars properly have upgraded the driveshaft and gone to a 12 bolt Moser or similar setup, which solves the drivetrain problems.

Yep, the axle is a cheaped out unit, especially the 7.62" w/o the Torsen. Also the floor pan on the Camaro never changed from when they went form the LT1 to the LS1 so the passenger side floor board still has that STUPID bump in it for the cat, which is no longer there. GM are cheap a-holes and I wouldn't buy a US GM if I had to. The GTO on the other hand is a quality built Aussie car wihtout an excellent drivetrain, and the interior is gorgeous. No crappy Delco stereo or electronics, for starters, just a sweet Blaupunkt in the dash.

CJ, gorgeous car that has had all the right upgrades done. Crapmaro aside, I like em a helluva lot better than Mullet Mustangs.

Stazi, yes overall I agree, though I think GM is keying into this fact here in the U.S.A. gradually. Yes that stupid bump is STILL there, though I never cared since I was always driving...

Yes, I agree, and that comes few and far between. Most guys run out of money so you see quite a lot of cars for sale that aren't done the way they should be.

The beauty of buying a seriously modded car is that the mods are all sunk costs and largely can't be built into the price of the car.

Actually I like some of the newer Stangs. I've grown fond of the new Cobras, and even moreso, the Mach 1's. Still have a soft side for the SS line though, I guess I'm biased toward the LS1/LS2 engines.

Yes , but then you run the risk of a seriously abused car. I'd always prefer to get a low milage stock car and mod it myself.
