I need to have my fuel pump replaced on my 2000 SVT, but don't know where to go. I'd do it myself, but I live on Eglin AFB and they would probably frown upon me tearing my car apart in a parking lot. Does anyone know of a local shop that they can recommend? Or, better yet, someone have a garage with some tools? I have beer! Thanks! Tim

It's all on the inside of the car though, so other than when you're walking into your place carry the back seat, they shouldn't see much.

If you take your time and do it yourself, you can save a LOT of money.
First time took me about 3 hours.
I can now do it in about 30 minutes.
And I have the equivalent mechanical ability of a ferrit on heroin.

its no big deal. fairly simple if you know a thing or two about cars or turning a wrench, if you have no skills what so ever you might want to take it to a shop.
follow the instructions in the how -to section about replacing the fuel pump.
for the first time you will need. about two hours, phillis head screw driver, standard screw driver, hammer/mallet,tin snips, and a paper clip to release the rear seat from the middle seat belt attachment. oh and a new fuel pump green gasket part #XS2Z-9276-AA
you can use a stock fuel pump $300 at dealer, or a focus svt smart pump $80 from dealer the focus the focus pump requires a little file to shave the connector to the different focus pump once its removed from the basket. its backward.if you need more info check out the fsvt fuel pump install in the dura-tech maintaince section.
oh yea i almost forgot , you need to release the shrator valve in the engine compartment under the throttle body.you want to do this after the car has been sitting for a while because that fuel sure is hot if you don't.
the problem i had was with the sock filter on the pump itself. unless your fuel pump is dead you can cut a hole about a 1/2 inch square in the L shaped filter and that will solve the cut out problem in the high rpm's with less than a 1/2 tank of fuel. turned out i didn't " need " a fuel pump just a clean filter which lucky us the dealer only sells as a complete $300 contour svt fuel pump unit.

Thanks for all the good info! I've been making a list of part numbers for the various parts I may need. I do have a question, though. You mentioned a gasket part number. I have that one written down, as well as XS8Z-9276-AB. What's the difference? Is it an E0/E1 difference?
Thanks!

i own a 2000 csvt. the part # for the green gasket that seals the top of the fuel tank under the back seat is part#XS2Z-9276-AA. I'm unsure what part # you have. as far as i know it is the part # you will need for an E1 csvt.
Althought if you car still runs and justs cut out or surges at high rpm's the fuel pump filter disk #1 and the fuel punp sock filter #2 is most likly your problem. these filters get real nasty ,grimy and dirty .
you can remove the disk screen at the bottom of the fuel pump basket [throw this thing in the trash]. and cut a smalll hole in the sock filter connected to the fuel pump itself inside the basket. [you will need to replace the green gasket if you do this]
that will fix the fuel starvation problem with less than a 1/2 tank of fuel.and the car will run fine reguardless of the amount of fuel in the gas tank.
as far as replacing the sock filter the only way i have found one was to buy a $300 csvt fuel pump unit. they don't seem to sell just the filter itself you must buy the complete unit. check out the fsvt fuel pump replacement in the dura -tech maintaince section for more info on this.

Hi guys, thanks for all the good info. I'll order a FSVT pump after I get my evacuation reimburstment. I do have one question. Do I need to have the fuel line disconnect tool, or does that just make the job a little easier? I saw a reference for one in a different post. Thanks!
