Since I did my A2Z test at little wrong a couple months ago, I decided to try a A2Z vs Meguiar's Hot Rims test this time, again on Mom's car.. and I followed the directions! (I think ) Both wheels I played with were on the front. The car had not been washed in at least a month, probably longer. Mom has driven from Indiana to Maryland and Indiana to Kentucky during this time, and the car was just sitting outside at the airport for a week. I think I put EX-P on the wheels in mid-July. No brush agitation was done with either wheel.. just sprayed on and rinsed off. Didn't want to have to track down two brushes that were exactly the same (to avoid cross contamination) and make sure that I did the same amount of agitation on both. Both cleaned up just fine afterwards with a brush and car wash soap. I'll just leave the final pictures displayed, and link the rest... Getting started with Hot Rims.. I dropped the bottle and cracked the sprayer, so I had to put a new sprayer on it. http://www.webmasterp.com/albums/hota2z/aaa.jpgHot Rim wheel sprayed down with water.. I believe the directions say to use it on a wet wheel. http://www.webmasterp.com/albums/hota2z/aab.jpgAfter letting the cleaner sit for 15 seconds http://www.webmasterp.com/albums/hota2z/aac.jpgAnd after rinsing

Getting started on the A2Z side

Right after spraying the wheel down

After letting it sit for 30 seconds

And after rinsing
I'd say that the Eagle One A2Z did a better job at cleaning. Looks like more crap was left on the Hot Rims wheel. May have something to do w/ the Hot Rims being sprayed on a wet wheel Since they are similarlly priced, I'll keep using A2Z
Like I said, a brush and car wash soap cleaned the rest of the stuff off, so the wheels probably weren't all THAT bad to begin with.

The best stuff is wheel acid. Very strong chemicals that literally burns all the brake dust down. However, you will need to rinse it off ASAP otherwise itll burn your rims or wheels permanently. This stuff is only use by detailers. Not found over the counter as well.

You CANNOT use wheel acid on aluminum rims, because it will screw them up. I know from first hand experience because like you said I had a friend who worked for a professional detailer. Took my parents' minivan in to have him clean it and the acid ended up taking some of the finish off the rims. So as long as you have the stock Contour SE rims, you will be screwing yourself if you put acid on them.
But it does work well, especially on steel.

Acid won't be touching my wheels.. Above my level of comfort by a long shot. I think that it would stain clearcoated wheels too.. Probably best to just use it on VERY VERY dirty chrome wheels when nothing else works.
A2Z is even a little too harsh for weekly washes.. I prefer just car wash shampoo and a brush. Keep the wheels coated in a sealant, and the gunk comes off pretty easily. No sense in using a wheel cleaner that will probably remove a sealant as it removes the brake dust.
Eagle One actually makes a wheel acid.. but, yea.. in their pro line. They recommend it for chrome and wire wheels.. not uncoated aluminum or clearcoated wheels.

LOL... I just use car soap and my two hands. Anything else is a waste of money and will hurt your wheels and paint.
