Man screw Craftsman. I say Mac, they will work with just about anyone. You can usually walk up to a Mac truck in the lot of a dealership and they will sell to you. Craftsman tools are ok, but most are hard to use for long periods (wrenchs will HURT your hands). I wrenched for about 12 years, Snap on has my vote for most everything but wrenches...Mac tools fit your hand. So I say buy all Mac Tools and split the difference, but Sears Tools are just OK.....

I like Craftsman as well. I like being able to hit the store 1 mile away for anything I could want or when I snap a breaker bar. I don't wrench on motors every weekend, just when I have to. Plenty good enough. Do what JVT did, wait for a huge set to go one sale in a nice plastic case.

I have Craftsmen and Mac in my box. Both work really well, and if you take the time to maintain them well, either will last a long time. If you go Craftsmen, I'd say spend the extra money and buy the "professional" series of the tools you'll use most, like a 3/8 ratchet. They're a little better quality(from my experience), are easier to clean more comfy to use, and also look better to boot. Mac is a good tool and yes they will work with almost anyone, but it can sometimes be hard to find a truck to walk up to or get a new tool right away. As has been said, Sears is open on weekends so you can run there anytime almost and get a new one should the need arise.

all things considered, for the home, part-time wrencher, craftsman is the way to go.
I also believe that Snap-On and MAC both have better quality, etc. but for someone that is not wrenching on stuff a lot (anyhitng more than the average weekend job) the extra cost, and effort typically required to go with snap-on or Mac just isn't worth it. (unless you have lots of spare cash laugh )

That said, I went w/ Craftsman, but I would never turn my nose at either snap-on or mac.

It's all about balance.

You could sell your tools years from now if need be and get almost what you paid for them.
Resale value on tools??? Who cares...

Why in the heck would you ever sell your tools??? That goes against all common sense... :p
If it ever came to down to selling my tools. I must be dead so I wouldn't matter to me... wink

Also about Snap-On. Great tools! Try gettin one warrantied though!!! Unless you work at a shop the snap-on guy comes to; you are flat out screwed... This goes for any company like this (MAC, Matco, etc)

Personally you can't go wrong with Craftsman. Decent price, good tool, good selection, warrantied anywhere.
The majority of my tools are Craftsman.
