Not sure how many others may have seen this before, but I'll tell anyway.

I did NOT like my Ford emblem at all on my Contour grill, and still haven't had the time to put in my Elky mesh in the upper grille yet, so I got this idea to paint the blue part of the Ford emblem high gloss black. So I taped off the chrome around the edges, very carefully, and sanded the plastic in the center of the chrome, and then painted it. After a few minutes, I took off the tape, and WoW, it was beautiful. It was just a black oval with chrome surrounding it. The black part looked like glass it was so shiney. I wanted to put the thing on my car right that second, but the paint was still too soft, so here's where the story came to an unsuspected twist...

So I put the oval under a 150w halogen lamp, then I thought, 'it will dry too slow right there', so I stuck a block of wood under the emblem so it would sit a little closer to the lamp so it would dry faster. Then I left it alone. When I came back an hour later, the plastic sticker with the blue oval on it had totally melted and was all floppy like Plexiglass or Lexan when hot, and was now ruined. I should have known it would get too hot that close. Anyway, while it was still hot, it was very easy to finish peeling all the adhesive off, and I was left with THIS:

Yeah, it sais 'Ford' right on it so the workers on the assembly line would put the sticker on right side up (since the emblem only fits on the grille one way)

Hmm, so I stuck it on the car, and I really like the way it looks. I think I will leave it. Gives a classier look overall. And it was free

Has anybody else tried this?

That is really fresh. Nice find.
I have my Ford oval on my monitor as I type... my halogen is a step away.

That's awesome. How would you recommend I go about doing it? I don't have any lights or anything hot.

Man, you guys sure got it hard down in Georgia..

I'm sure you could just stick it on/near the exhaust or heads for a few minutes.. Or, just pry the cover off, use a little solvent remover, etc..

I prefer the traditional Ford script, but mine is chipped, so maybe this would pass for the interim.

Well, it might not be free to you, since you may have to buy a halogen lamp.

It's been 3 days now with this thing like this and I still think it looks cool as can be. The front end looks way more custom look'n. I might even skip on the Elky mesh for now?
