guys....until a month and a half ago i worked at home depot for past 6 and 1/2 years and i can assure you that this is not a photoshop. that really did happen. the guys were on drugs of some kind and threw a huge fit when the lot guys would not load the car down. they complained enough that the manager finally gave in and made them sign the release of liability. the damage was exactly as stated and then the guys turned around and sued home depot.....and won. on the grounds that home depot should have known better. i don't remember what happened to the manager but i know he was in deep trouble with corporate.
whats really scary is that i could tell you guys true stories that would make you reconsider shopping there.

i'm not calling you a liar, but exactly how are those 4x4's (or whatever they are) magically staying put? that twine doesn't have the strength (and a human doesn't have enough raw strength to pull it tight enough) to apply enough force to the wood to keep the smaller posts from slding out of the center at that angle. i'm just amazed the stuff didn't slide off!!

only thing I can think of is static friction. maybe the weight of all that lumber was effectively holding it in place. I doubt it, but I really have no idea.
as for the story. I saw this a while back, something about the people were buying supplies to begin building a house, because they were moving. who knows. crazy people do crazy things.

i don't blame you for being scepticle(sp?). if it weren't for all the stuff i know and have seen there i would be too. look carefully at the twine and you can see that the load did infact shift. it also appears that the load was secured from all sides. after the load shifted the twine and friction helped keep the load from totally falling off. also the twine was layered to increase strength. it helped that more than a couple a people worked together to load the car down.
again....with the stories i could tell you, you wouldn't doubt this.

that pic looks so fake its not even funny!
but snopes.com is an incredibly viable and credible source. they had a big article on them in the LA Times on them a few weeks ago. its a husband and wife who started it as a hobby. i believe he was an attorney and she was a legal research expert. they got so overwhelmed in their snopes research projects they decided to do it full time. they are frequently referred to by news services and such. they know their shizzle!
man, i saw this pic quite some time ago but never new if it was bogus or not.
