as andy pointed out, some people here are forgetting that this kid does not have a legal right the wear what he wants so long as he is a minor. he must live by the rules that his parents set for him. so his parents are ok with it you say? he must also live by the rules that society sets. in this case the no visible piercing thing. he must learn disipline.

study psychology and you will see that he does infact have issue to deal with. as do we all. the difference here is how we deal.

to the person who compared this kid to dr. martin luther king jr: wth? are you really serious? dr king promoted peaceful demonstrations within the boundaries of the law, not abandoning the law, or rules, whenever it suits you. more importantly, the civil rights movement was to get equal rights and treatment for people who just happen to be a little darker than the white people. not because they made a choice to be black as this kid made a choice to wear the visible piercings.

here is a good opportunity for this kid to do something productive. start a petition by getting the students to sign saying they think the rule should be changed. get the parents involved. have the rules changed be going through the system as opposed to flipping the bird to the system.

i have a masters in education and have taken many psychology classes. i am currently in law school. i have taught in high school to chumps just like this one. i was a chump in high school. IMO, you sir, have no knowlege-based OR experience-based idea of what you are talking about. i would much rather him deal with his own issues by piercing his forehead than coming to school and shooting intolerant people like yourself.

Just because some school might have a paper for parents to sign stating they know the school rules does not mean all schools do, typically very large schools dont. maybe she didnt read it, who cares! i know my mom wouldnt have. she would yeah yeah yeah the usual bs ok i have to go to work, where do i sign? if she wants to let him look like that does it reallly bother you? if it does, you need help, dr. phil kinda help. maybe she doesnt care for it either but is proud of him because he helps make ends meet. maybe he is working and helping his mom so they dont live on the streets. i would say he is alredy a man. most little HS pricks could care less about their parents issues and only care about themselves.

i dont like this piercing phase these kids are going through. i would never let my daughter wear that crap as long as she lived in my house. i think its ugly. i also think baggy pants with boxers sticking out is lame. i thing wearing Aston Kutcher trucker hats is lame. so what? who cares? certainly not them. i laugh when i stand in line at blockbuster and the guy has this crap jingling from his face cuz i know thats why he works at blockbuster. so? he'll figure it out in a few years.

by the rationale of many of the people in heres socialistic thinking we should also:
1. ban modifications from cars because they are distracting, they make noise, and they may result in serious injury/death.
2. ban baggy/tight pants for the same reasons as piercings.
3. ban video games because it is an ovious venting of a child's anger because he has serious issues that he is suppressing and his parents are ignoring. this may lead to him shooting everyone at school.
4. ban rap music because its offensive and most people do not like it. what? you like rap music? then go live somewhere else. something must be wrong with your mother if youre white and you listen to hip hop.
5. you wanna wear a yamika(sp?) in class?! too bad, youre in the bible belt, you dont like, move back to NY! WTH is wrong with your mother letting you walk around with that little thing on your head and thinking that Jesus wasnt the savior!
6. you might be too young to remember (i know i am) when black people were too distracting and offensive and were considered too dangerous by many southern schools.
7. we should do it like old school china with the short haircuts and drab grey suits for everyone. then people can just focus on their work.

there was a great Christmas episode of South Park just like this. Everything the kids did offended someone so in the end they were all wearing blah-looking grey outfits and mumbling with no stage decorations for their Christmas performance.

i went to a private baptist school in 8th grade where girls could not wear pants (looong dresses) and boys had to tuck their button up collered shirts in, and must wear a belt. boys had to have short "neat" hair and no facial hair or earings whatsoever. girls could have earings but only one stud in each ear. this was just 10 years ago, and they still do it. imagine that in a public school. all the kids hated it and tried to find ways to sneak around it. still had fights, smoking, graffiti, etc...

boy, i think some right-wing conservatives in here have some issues to deal with.
