While I think school was merely obeying the guidelines, I still think the guidelines are too strict.

Maybe that's because I went to schools that didn't have a dress code. And we did fine. Even with the punks and their 12" chains.

What happens if this kid gets in a fight and has them ripped out. Not quite as easy to repair as an ear.

And what parent lets a 10th grader get facial peircings.

Poor parenting!

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I would say if they didn't warn him first and only suspended him, then that is unjust, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
Schools have many dresscode rules, even if they seem silly, everyone has to follow those rules because there's good reason for them.
It appears from the article he was warned once, he did removed them once, but then he decided to "take a stand" and continue to wear them.
He should have been suspended. He knew the rules.

Yeah I was supposed to tuck my shirt in in high school. Funny though cuz the Principal didn't care but one of the Vice principles and about 3 or 4 teachers tried to single handly enforce it.

Also,

FT Meade is a public highschool located on a Military base, sow between the straight laced military kids and the large number of minorities in that area, he was probably made fun of by all of them and that is why he left.

Safty wise i have to agree...also, as a former Manager of a retail store, its not very appealing to customers to see that, unless its a trendy store like Hot Topic or Journeys which caters to youth.....But most business do not.

Ears, im ok with, but lip and brow, iv seen both get ripped out of someone in a fight at my old school...not pretty or plesant.

I ahve to agree, take them out...they should ahve researched the rules of a new school...but in the same token, i think it was a little too harsh to subject the kid tht punishment...especially if hes brand new...Maybe detention after school?

Short of not researching schools better..

It doesn't matter, rules are made for a reason..

What does he want to do for a living... chances are
unless its a video jokey at blockbusters, or some
coffee trailer... he'll be hard pressed to get a professional
job, with that crap stuck in his face...

Maybe he can claim religion... and then SUE...

how like a north easterner to hire an attorney....

help mom with rent? well atlanta should have been
the last choice... its not cheap there...
