Poor parenting!
I have to chime in here, because while I agree with the "what if he gets in a fight" part, the parenting comment I don't.
Since when is it poor parenting to allow your child to become an individual? I suppose good parenting requires that every parent of every child should raise their child to wear the same style/brand/print/color shirt/pants/shoes/socks/underwear so there is no individuality and everyone is the same?

apparently you don't have much idea what it's like to be a single parent, jackass. it's probably pretty easy to sit there and criticize from the comfort of your parents basement eh?
i'd be willing to bet that the mother feels pretty bad about having to make her kid help with the bills... and perhaps as a reward for being responsible, she let him get the piercings. either way... the piercings aren't a big deal.
seriously, there are much better things to worry about with the public education system.

I can understand a piercing or two. Some look OK and some people just like them, though some people do go overboard (especially if you're a teen, you don't really know if you wanna do all that crap) and fill their face with crap.

it's a bogus rule. it's not the school's responsibility. it's his mom's fault for letting him get those piercings in the 10th grade to begin with. too bad he has to suffer the penalty. if i were the school, i'd fine the mom instead. $20 per day until those studs are out, and let the kid enjoy school.

Now this is a load of crap. You are simply generalizing things far too much here. I've had not only my tongue, but also my brow pierced at times, and this was while working as a Lead Sys Admin for a Gov't contractor, and I had TS/SCS clearance, too. (Yes, the Gov't gave clearance to someone with piercings, oh no!) More than 1/2 of the programmers at Symantec had piercings, and/or visible tattoos, and made no less than 6-figures a year...
I do agree, he should have to follow the school rules, but the statement above is simply idiotic.

since when does becoming an individual require body piercings? isn't it "what's inside" that counts? kids should be more concerned with their studies and getting into college than how many holes they can fit in their face. just my humble opinion.

What happens if this kid gets in a fight and has them ripped out. Not quite as easy to repair as an ear.
And what parent lets a 10th grader get facial peircings.
Poor parenting!

Poor parenting has nothing to do with letting your children be expressive. Just because facial piercings conflict w/ your values and beliefes does not make it wrong. I would say that some kid assualting another by ripping out someone's facial piercings is a result of bad parenting.
