I don't know why they include it. They did give me the other nut with the cotter pin, too. But that's the easy one to get off. All fresh. I suppose you could just re-use the old ones, but hey, new parts are always better, right? Maybe the manufacturer figured that since it's such a PITA to get them off, they assume you might do some damage to the nut in the process. I do recall the ends being a bit pricey _ more than $30 each.

Yeah, I would have ordered ahead of time, but it was a spur-of-the-moment replacement while doing my sway bar end links, which, oddly enough, I ordered from BAT. I was just so frustrated from getting the end links replaced, and then I notice my rod ends flopping around, and the weather wasn't great...not a great experience.

Some lock nuts can be a royal pita. I used to do alignments at Belle Tire, one of the tricks we would use was to heat the lock nut up and then crank on it. If it was really stubborn we'd hose it down with some penetrating oil before we heated it, let it soak a bit then heat it up. Otherwise some kind of cheater bar on your wrench is probably your best bet. Once you get the lock nut free though, leave it pretty much where it's at if possible, that keeps your alignment settings pretty much right where they were. Oh as far as heating the nut goes, we used oxyacetelyne torches, but a map gas torch should work fine too if you can get one of those, not sure about propane. Oh, and as always, be real careful to watch where you point that torch, keep it away from any plastic lines or fuel lines, anything like that. Should be common sense, but I guess I better watch myself anyway.
