I'm trying to reomve outer tie rod end using reqular wrenchs but can't seem able to apply enough torque on lock nut and tie rod with the car jest on jack stand high, do I need something call tie rod tools? I need some in put for those who has done this before, thank you.

They are a PITA, just takes air tools or muscle. I used muscle. Make sure you are using decent tools and just turn the crap outta it, try holding the inner tie rod end in place with a vice grip or something. One side was so tight on mine, I put a large wrench on it, then put my tire iron through the other end of the wrench and pulled with both arms. (be careful)

A lot of times, the rod end will come loose before the nut does. If the new tie rod end is a perfect fit, no need to even loosen the bolt. But if it's not, keep the old tie rod end on there and torque away. large pipe wrenches come in handy sometimes, too. And you can always bust out the hacksaw, since new tie rod ends usually come with new nuts.

They don't come with a new lock nut which is the hard nut to remove, not the little nut where the cotter pin is.

Every set of tie rod ends I've ever purchased (and not just for this car) have come with a new lock nut. But hey, that's just me.

How hard is it to find a new nut from a harware store, that will work? After all it's a nut, not a ionic plasma cannon for an X-wing fighter!

I've purchased three outer tie rod ends from Ford, and not a single one of them has come with a lock nut.
To answer the question about removing. I've always used the scissors method of putting two wrenches close together and squeezing them (wrenches moving in opposite directions). Took quite a bit more force the first time I removed them. An ideal approach would be to find something solid the bottom wrench can rest on, then beat the piss out of the top one with a BFH.

Did I say you can't get a new nut? Why cut it though? Just don't be a little pansy and put some muscle into it and remove it. I'm a little dood (or atleast not big), just you do what you gotta do.

Uh, from my friendly neighborhood auto parts store (Consumer Auto Parts, Worcester, MA). I believe the set I bought last year for the SVT were Moog units, but my memory escapes me. I can get a sworn affadavit if you'd like. Anybody know a notary public?
