so i have the car at the dealer right now, to replace the dmd with a stock crank pulley. the dmd was very wobbly and caused the front seal to go bad and spray oil all over the place. the dealer just called and said they cant get the bolt to budge. they said they can try to force it, but if they do and the bolt breaks, i will need a new crank and they wont be responsible for the damage. im not sure what would cause the bolt to not budge, but we followed the instructions on the ford cd when torquing it...

aside from "you shouldda done it yourself!", do you think i should have them try to force it?

I bought the DMD when it was a hype thing to do a while back. Once installed on my car is was off my car within 5-10 minutes, in my honest opinion I think after that day my car hated me. DMD isnt meant for my car, it was meant for my grandma.

Ford must have hated the DMD so much, it now comes standard on the 3.0L models. Ill take a DMD anyday.

Have they tried a bit of heat on it? As long as they don't superheat the crank trying to get it out, a little heat might help out. Did you put any type of locktite on the bolt when putting it in?

Also, if they haven't dealt with this particular bolt before, then they may not be used to the fact that it's torqued to close to 200 ft lbs by the time you TTY it. A good 1/2" impact wrench is usually all I need to pull one off.

Thanks,
Rick

I used heat and a hammer to get the one off the blown SVT motor. Just tapping on the bolt can get it to come loose sometimes. It was a [censored] to get off, but I eventually got it. You can also use some extensions to clear the wheel well and a huge breaker bar but you'd probably break an extension.

The DMD is a good reliable mod...But in the case of Oven, somthing (and its rare) bad happened... Oven a little heat like stated should get it out... Oh Rickse999, The DMD is a stock part on all 3 liters, and i would never switch it for anything. Also, what would you put on the 3 liter in place of it?

FYI,

The outer ring of the DMD is pressed on with a bit of loctite to hold it in place. The wobble you're seeing it if the outer ring has started to separate from the main pulley. A simple fix is to pull the pieces apart, clean the contact areas and apply a bead of red loctite all the way around the contact area and press back together.
