For a paltry $18.50 plus shipping from any company such as CTA Motorsports, no mod priced so economically can have as big an impact as the Energy Suspension polyurethane motor mount inserts. With the help of Victor at Innovative Performance Technologies, I installed the inserts on Saturday. I reccommend air tools and a lift if its available to aid in the installation. We used an air ratchet to break loose the front torque mount, supported the engine with a floor jack/tranny cradle, then proceeded to remove the motor mount from the engine bay. The mount is mounted inside the bracket using a bolt that is threaded into compression fittings. We had to take the backet and mount out as one unit before fully disassembling it. I then inserted the inserts, and Victor put the motor mount back into place, torquing it down to the correct specifications.

The result of this mod is suprising! The driveline is much more solid now, and power is applied to the ground in a much more direct manner. Shifts feel more positive, and driveline movement during spirited acceleration and downshifting is eliminated. Overall, the car reacts as one unit now as opposed to a chassis and a driveline working somewhat independently. An easy, must do mod for every performance enthusiast or shade tree mechanic. Thanks to Victor at IP Tech for the quick install and advice.

Can also make us CUSTOM suspension hardware such as sway bars, strut tower bars, etc with enough interest.

They can do a port/polish job on the SVT heads/intake for $650. They are ALREADY working on a 3.0L swap with CUSTOM CAMS (regrinds)that will be available for special order soon. I will look to them to provide many performance solutions for my SVT in the future.

were you getting alot of powertrain movement before this? my whole system is jumping around with every shift... if i take the new mounts to the dealer, will they replace them under warrenty or it concerned OE?

i am offically a troll... so take my information and advice with a grain of salt.

If your drivetrain is moving and floping around violently, then what you probably have is a broken motor mount. My car didn't have broken mounts, these were just a modification/upgrade. I don't think your average ford dealer would be too keen on putting them in for you. Its not job you couldn't do yourself with some rhino ramps, a few hand tools, a hydraulic jack, and a torque wrench.

99SVTGuy,

Have you noticed any increased vibration through the steering wheel at idle? I'm experiencing so much that I think I'll be temporarily removing mine to see if that's the source of the problem. Terry Haines also detailed an alignment procedure that needed to be performed on the subframe if the mount insert was going to be installed. Did you have that done? Unfortunately I didn't and I can't find Terry's post on how to do it.

Thanks,

I did mine when car was almost new, before other mods so I dont recall such a dramatic difference. But I do think they will at least prolong mount life.

No I don't have any real changes in vibration. You will feel more road imperfections through the steering wheel, but I think this more direct communitcation is welcome.

No I didn't have an alignment done. Car doesn't pull in either direction. It was just a very simple in and out procedure that would only take 45 min or so with a lift and the right tools.

Are you sure you're not talking about the subframe bushings and not the motor mount inserts?

bnoon,

Now that I think of it, I'm 90% sure you a right. The reason for my 10% doubt is that I remember that Terry had made his statements a month or two after I installed the transmission mount insert and I thought to myself "I wish I had of known that before I installed it." It is quite possible that I got things confused back then.

I'll see if I can widen my search on the topic to include subframe bushings to see if I can locate Terry's message.

While we're on the topic, do you know what my cause the excessive vibration coming through the steering wheel? My dealership says it's normal for high performance cars. I hate my dealership.

Thanks,

i have these mounts. they're in my trunk. we've managed to fail twice in putting them in. that bolt through the middle is on damn strong.
maybe i oughta just hit up a speedshop and have them do it. just the thought of throwin down money for something i know i should be able to do kills me. (i'm a cheap/broke ass student)

Nice review, just reiterating what's been known for over 2 years though:

this was back before the inserts were even available, had to do it yourself. Ahh, the good old days smile
