I've been reading up on the 3.0L conversion and I think it's a really good way to start making serious power with these cars. I've been saving for a 3.0L block, and I've aquired a second car to drive while mine is under the knife. But before I take the plunge, I have a few questions.

1) Will my MSDS headers still fit? Would I have to use the 2.5L heads or does it even matter?

2) I have an automatic. Will it bolt right up to the CD4E tranny? I know the Taurus uses a different automatic transmission. Terry?

Use the search!!!

okay now that that is done...

1) yes - same heads... Yes; because of water pump! options - See Search for Details

2) not a problem. But can the ATX handle the torque??? Suggest tranny cooler and shift kit.

The 3.0 crank, auto only, needs the flange grinding/m-c to accept a std flywheel.Bolt pattern same for flywheel or flex plate.Bell housing will fit ,V6 3.0 to 2.5 MTX75.

let me see if i understand:

1) for an ATX, the crank must be ground to mate to the flywheel. interesting, i thought this was required (only) for the MTX.
2) m-c confused
3) 3.0 bell housing fits MTX75. CD4E also?

assuming the AX4N is stronger, does anybody know if it would fit? crazy, i guess... but curious, too. the gearing is below:

MTX75 3.42 2.14 1.45 1.03 0.77
CD4E 2.89 1.57 1.00 0.69
AX4N 2.77 1.54 1.00 0.69

I think he is saying to make the crank fit a standard flywheel for an MTX75 equipped car is when you have to grind the crank......

i may be wrong..

i agree with that, from previous posts. just trying to figure out what is required for the engine swap with an ATX. my search queries have not turned up this info.

don't know about an ATX, but...
mc = machined
the crank will fit the flywheel regardless, it needs to be shortened so it won't bang the input shaft from the tranny.
The bellhousing is part of the transmission.
