Note that the new 1.8T has been factory updated with a faster spooling turbo, bigger injectors, larger manifold, variable cam timing, and drive by wire throttle.

Fastest 1.8T's seem to be the jetta and gti's, they have transverse engine layout(less driveline loss than the VW/AUDI longitudinal platform), lightest weight (2800 lbs I think, vs 3200-3300 for a passat, maybe 3500 for a A4 w/quattro).

Chip alone on a new 1.8t (AWW, AUG engine codes) is supposed to be 205-210 crank hp, and 245 ft/lbs.

low-mid 14's in the quarter, low 6's 0-60.

I believe this is where SVT 2 1.8T is operating at.....Would make an interesting race.

Whoa mamma eek, that's a ton better numbers than previous models. No use backing out now... Well, let's get it on!

Aaarrggg! The dyno plot tells the whole story. They have a 2001 1.8T with just chip & catback making 181 FWHP (near my 179 FWHP) but that cars 200 lb/ft down low makes the power curve VERY fat. For example, at 4000 RPM, I'm making about 110 HP to the 1.8Tws 140 HP (so he is killing me at that RPM), by 5000 RPM it is closer - only 10 HP apart. So to stay with that car, (assuming similar weight) I would need to keep above 5000 RPMs which means either: 1) a chip with 7500 RPM redline so that upon shifting I am at 5000 RPM instead of 4500, or 2) a 6 speed. Be nice to have that hipo damper and chip...

The pisser of the whole 1.8T is that a good chip (Autothority) + Forge DV... (total cost anywhere from ($400 - $1k depending on the quality chip you get) put the Passat/Golf/Jetta/TT/A4 up to and past the SVT. (Go ahead and give me 1 star if that makes you feel better.) That's not to say that chipping will yield a long life for your clutch, turbo, or engine, but for low $ you've got a sleeper car. Now, an SVT with a turbo, that's a different story....

my friend Had (now has 97 supra turbo) 1.8t Audi A4 w/ quattro.. he had an exhaust, chip, and some air cleaner in it.. well, as Tazz would say, "Just anotha victum!" But i like those cars.. i honestly almost bought an 18.t A4 before my brother showed me the csvt. I was ready for the A4, I was looking for mods at total audi performance's site and everything.. but now, i have my love, the svt... wish i looked at a muscle stang insterad but hey...

Since the blocks are the same, yes. I would get the 3L up and running before adding the turbo. I have had contact with people with this same question. We'll see.
