Since this is my first post I just wanted to say hello and tell you this is a great site, and I've already found lots of good info.

I'm looking for an SVT to replace my current car. I'm trying to save some cash and since my brother used to own a 00' i think it would be a great replacement.

I found a 99 today with 43K miles on it. Black/tan. Took a drive down to the dealership to check it out, and it had not been cleaned yet. From what I could tell the paint was in pretty good condition, the interior was great. The aftermarket headunit and system had been removed (wires all over the trunk and no headunit), and there was an intake (not familiar with the brands) on the car.

Dealership is replacing: radio, intake, tires, and exhaust. The exhaust sounded very loud so I asked the sales guy if he knew what kind of exhaust was on it (figured he wouldn't). He said he did not. I took a peek under the car and found the Y-pipe and catback were disconnected. No biggie there, just tighten up the bolts. I couldn't see any stampings on the muffler so it may have just been the stock exhaust.

I would like to buy a mostly stock car, but I've modified my previous cars (98 Mustang GT, 96 Cobra, 00 Lightning) and didn't expect the buyers to freak out over a K&N and exhaust then either.

They are asking 12,500 for the car. They guy actually told me he'd sell it for much less if they didn't have to replace the exhaust or the intake.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

don't bother replacing the intake with factory. open air intakes have been proven effective, and will cost you less than $200.

offer them $10.5k, take it as is, and use the other $2k to add what you want (intake, stereo, exhaust). and make them replace the water pump and perform all of the recalls.

that's my suggestion.

I would have it checked by a mechanic to see if the exhuast is damaged or just loose. Otherwise tell them to leave it all and offer them 10.5K Just my thoughts.

10.5 is what I'd expect to pay, but I'd start much lower and work up to that point for a car that's been messed with. Buckshot knows what I'm talking about... We've discovered many things that the prior owner had no clue of the proper way to do a mod, but did it anyway with lazy intensions. Keep the car high on the priority list, but "work" that dealer man! laugh

Most likely the car had an aftermarket exhaust on it at one time and the stocker was just thrown back on hastily. Get it checked out as well as the rest of the car at a non-dealer mechanic. Most of the time they do inspections for free if you promisse to take them some of the work after the purchase. wink

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I'll see if I can get in touch with them before they start replacing things on the car.
