Like it's on rails...that is the vehicles strong point (along with all the cooool gadgets). Your buddy needs to learn how to keep his 8 in the "powerband" area of the revs (6-9K...after break-in period ) to make up for the lack of low end ummmphh...

The Auto version of the RX-8 is rated 50-hp less than the Manual version, not to mention the inherent drivetrain loss. A Zetec could probably beat it.
