A random thought to explain another "fix" for dying IMRC's: On NECO people have reported pulling the cover and giving the motor a spin will help resolve the pulsing problem (this is the case when the IMRC opens, but "flutters" causing a surging feeling during acceleration).
It's likely that the motor will always open and stop at the same spot as it pulls the cable till it can't pull any more. I'm curious if all that time sitting on a particular spot on the brush/stator whatever can lead to a bad contact, so the motor loses tq, unwinds a bit till it hits a new contact spot and then winds back up? Just random thoughts with no data to support it though
