Hey everyone, I just bought a 1999 Contour SVT with about 60k miles (100k kms). Ive had it about a week, today I took it into my local dealer and had them change the tranny fluid to the synthetic stuff with some friction modifier. It shifts a bit better but still is very hard to get into first and reverse from a stop.
Anyway, about an hour after I picked up the car from the dealer I was driving and took a very hard left hand turn under acceleration and the car just died in mid turn! Now I read something somewhere about this being a common problem but I cannot locate the information now
BUT, that is not all! I parked the car for about an hour then went out again and was going up a hill at about 80kph, in a straight line, and the car just died again! Thats right, it just died at about 80kph!
When it stalls the oil and check engine lights come on (of course) and it will start up again almost immediately afterwards
Hopefully someone can help me out did the dealer mess up something could it somehow be related to the trannyhelp!

Hi welcome aboard. If you have less than 1/3 tank of gas it could be the fuel pump or the screen on the pump. Search "fuel pump" in trouble shooting. Linky 1 Linky 2

That's for the welcome and the reply chongo, I appreciate it.
I'm a little confused as to whether it is fuel or spark related.
It did it again this morning on the way to work. I was accelerating in second and it just died.
When it stalls it just quits. There is no hesitation at all. It is like someone just turned the key off.
The factors that lead me to think it is fuel related are that there is only 1/4 tank of gas in the car, and that it has died on a hill and in a turn.
Would the computer just cut the engine if there was a lean condition due to the lack of fuel and a faulty pump, or would there be some hesitation first?
The factors that lead me to think it is spark related are that it just dies without hesistation and that when I installed my stereo the amps weren't initially running as they were getting only 4 volts...
What would you guys suggest I do first?

Fill up the fuel tank full, try to duplicate the drive and see if it dies. If not it's the fuel pump.
If the computer could shut down the engine because of a fault, then we would never
drive more than 10km and we would never blow engines or trannies.

Sounds like you are having the same trouble I was having with my 2000 Mystique. Read "Car just dies while cruising! HELP" on page 14. This might help you. Mine is running great right now. Should you need a fuel pump, I have one I'll sell cheap.

I filled her up and it hasn't stalled yet. Funny thing is it may be my imagination but she feels weaker above 4 grand now...
If it is the fuel pump, will there be any other signs such as sluggish performance?
Thanks guys
