FWIW BAT paid Jacques' salary, not BAR. It's not accurate to say Jacques' salary could be rolled into BAR's R&D.

IMO Jacques is not the greatest development driver, but he does have considerable talent. If he can temper his stubbornness and learn to work a bit better with the engineers, he could redeem himself.

He's an exciting driver that rocked the F1 boat when he bleached his hair and won the championship. Yeah, that one little act was controversial for even the decadence and playboy attitude of Formula 1.

As for BAR's performance this year, I think people should stop blaming one person or another and admit that the involvement of David Richards and ProDrive are one of the keys to BAR's recent success.

atleast someone agrees with me!

i think it's too bad that a younger, better driver couldn't take the seat and get some experience. JV, give up!

I think Sauber wants/needs some more exposure. Hiring JV will result in much more of that (this thread is an obvious example) than hiring Gary Paffet or Vitantonio Liuzzi.

I agree with you on the exposure but JV also wants to come back obviously, he's still young (kinda)

I'd give him time... he's been out for a year and China is a physically demanding circuit. He hasn't had much time to come to grips with the car, either.

And $15 million more R&D money wouldn't have helped BAR much... $15 is chump change in F1. Ferrari's annual budget is $600 million!

Last I checked, Briatore isn't a patient man. IMO, Alonso has more talent than JV to begin with, so I can see JV get real bitter if he doesn't score higher than FA in at least one of the last races.

A bitter Villeneuve is not a good Villeneuve.

And yes, $15 million isn't a huge amount in F1 money, but if you're paying it out to somebody that doesn't produce and has a bad attitude, even Ferrari would send you packing.
