hey guys, i am pretty new to the contour stuff so bear with me please. i changed my tranny fluid to redline mtl about 3 weeks ago as soon as i bought the car. it only has like 40,000 miles on it. 99 svt. anyways i shifts good into all gears and goes into first easy when you are moving slowly or at a stop but if i am decelerating and want to go into first while still coming to a stop it is a little hard to get it into first. it will go in it just takes a little more pressure that downshifting into all other gears. is this a trait of this tranny or do i possibly have a problem brewing on my hands.
thanks

as far as I can tell that is just a trait, I never down shift to stop, but I do go down through the gear when i stop and have noticed that 1st is hard to get into sometimes

I just don't worry about it

You should not downshift into first until you are almost stopped. The tranny is designed that way so you don't destroy it by constantly downshifting into first to slow down (that's why they gave you brakes)

"They all do that." Hate to use that phrase, but the MTX-75 simply does not like to go into first at much faster than a crawl.

Try double-clutching.

i was taught never to go into first if you are moving at all. I do know what ur talking about, i put it in first and hold the clutch in until i stop to come in my driveway. Im pretty sure its supposed to be that hard, meaning u shouldnt go into first if ur already moving

You didn't go far enough. Basically all cars with manual transmissions are made to lock out 1st gear at anything over a crawl. This keeps you from accidently shifting into first when you are going from 2nd to 3rd.
I believe the owners manual says to only shift into first when you are stopped and that the transmission will be damaged if you don't follow this.
