My engine started knocking real hard this morning and I took it to the ford dealer in frederick (where I was at the time)

Now I just talked with the shop and it's the engine.

I dont know what exactly it is that died in there and I dont want to pay them to tear into it enough to find out.

Options now ?

3L ?
New different car ?
Used different car ?
"new" contour ?

For those who dont know. My car is officially totaled from an accident a few months ago. It still has a red rear bumper (on the silver body) and a scraped front bumper and a nice dent/scrape in the rear passenger side door from somebody that can't back out of a parking spot it is what you would call cosmetically challenged right now. I am kind of thinking it might not be worth it to fix the engine with the car looking the way it does right now.

Being so cosmetically challenged, IMHO don't think it's worth fixing.

What's your "budget" for a used or new car?

I vote 'new' CSVT.

You can part out the old car.

First I would have to find somebody that would want 142,000 mile old orginal parts.

If you know of anybody looking for one to part out let me know.

Thats about what I was afraid of

varible? I dont have numbers for sure right now but I dont *want* to pay much more for a new car than I paid for my contour when I bought it (about $16,600) but can go higher if it is something I really like.

For a used car I would rather pay a few thousand less than the figure above.

When I bought the 00 tour my "budget" was 15K and I spent 16.6K and when I bought my first tour my budget was 10K and I spent 12K so I am not real good at sticking to my numbers and I always have wiggle room in my budget for a bit more car.

I want my car to be
1. Reliable - at least as much so as my contour
2. fun (got to AutoX it some )

As for some cars I like (some are out of my price range and are only included to give you and idea of what I like)

other suggestions are of course welcome as long as they are not SUV's or pickup trucks.

Contour - I think most people know that one
Mazda Miata
Mazda 6 or 3
Nissan 350Z (but get rid of those door handles)
Older style 5 door sabb's (hatchbacks)
Scion Tc (it look nice in pictures have not tried it out at all)
Mazda RX8 (need better gas mileage)
Mini (but I hear bad things about the windsheild cracking on them)
Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT (the new one)
Subaru 2.5 RS coupe (the old one around 99-00 I think)
I have a soft spot for old boxy volvo's like my parents used to have.

This car does not need to be practical very much.

I have another car to drive around for a little while I try to figure out what I am doing (it was going to be my fun car but I guess it will be the DD for a while)

I also need to figure out what to do with my old car since I am sure the garage will not like it sitting there for very long so any suggestions on that would be most helpful (or if anybody has a car trailer to tow it with) I dont know how far it will drive like it is right now. The noises kept getting louder the closer I got to the shop but it did get there under it's own power.

w/ a new clutch it cost me 5gs to put a new engine in. i had the same prob, a cam messed up and caused the rod to come loose for the crank (piston 3 totally dead). the bottom bracket then beat the snot out of the area around the crank. engine gone. its 3100 plus for a rebuilt block. best bet is get something else.

What exactly are people going to want from my car? I did not have an SVT so there is no leather seating. My leather shift knob and stearing wheel are both well worn. My engine is toast and nobody will want much off of it since again it is not an SVT. My supension is orginal stock parts with 142K on them again something nobody would want.

I have the 00 dash so dash warp is there.
The airbags go unsold on ebay cheap (under $50 in most cases that I quickly looked at)
The seats - Would you want something my ass had sat on for 142,000 miles ?
I plan to pull out my stereo, B&M shifter and K&N drop in before I do anything with it along with my krafty boots.

My front and rear bumpers are in rough shape the passenger side of the car the rear door is dented and the front door might be mising a little paint.
My windshield is chipped.

I just am not seeing that much that people would want from a stock contour with high miles.

If you would like to part it out (minus the items listed above) and give me a little money out of the deal let me know.

Not worth the time or effort parting it out.

Take off what you want, return it to stock form.

You're better off donating it to charity and getting a tax write off.

I'd be interested in the Krafty boots if they are blue.
