What's your budget?

That will be the deciding factor right there on what you should be looking at.

I'm using a Sony DSC-F717 right now; I was planning on bumping up to the F828, but Canon has a few high-end models that are stirring my interest...

Sony has really suprised me with their picture quality and the lenses they've been using (Zeiss on most of their higher-end units). I've had no complaints out of mine, except the same one I've had with digital stills for ages: few prosumer models have detachable lenses.

That's changing, though.

Well my budget is $165 and I've been stumped for months.

The Fuji models (A330/340) sound neat and the Canon A75 is just about within that range. I'm sure a good Sony can be had for that amount, but I'm a digicam novice. I have no idea which to pick between the selections which are within my pricerange.

I will be getting the Fuji camera in that price range as soon as I get the money. We bought my dad last years model and the pictures were awesome for a novice camera user, and for someone that is going to use the camera as an average consumer. My dad has been taking pictures of his jobs with it and making brochures with them and the pictures look real nice.

I picked up the A75 a couple months ago for $150 from Circuit City on a price mistake. Love it so far, but I haven't taken many different types of pictures. Was up to about 4200 pics on my last camera.

Going from a G2 to any $300 camera today will not be a dowgrade. G2 is 3 or 4 models old. Technology is better and cheaper now. I'd say the A80 has just as much manual control and takes just as good pictures as the G2. And, it has a great video mode too.

Like Jato said, pick your budget, and that narrows down the selection.

The camera that I like the most so far is the Konica Minolta A2. It is expensive but I really like digital cameras. It would probably last for years. What do you think of the Konica Minolta A2? Do you see any problems with it?
