Holding you foot down on the gas while cranking (and its not starting) is a good way to flood your engine....I know cause i had that problem a few times before my motor swap.
So please, do not reconmend that.

Actually on our cars a wide open throttle during cranking does turn off the injectors. It is an intended design feature. It has worked for me many times.
Perhaps if you have a chip this feature may have been removed.
It is unlikely that you need to do anything else unless the problem repeats itself. I have seen this as a one time event on several cars, including makes other than Ford.
