I've never gotten any of my checks returned to me in the 5+ years I've had my checking account.
My bank keeps an electronic (scanned) image of front and back of each of my cleared checks.
I have access to these images anytime I need them.
I have only needed to refer to them once to prove that I made a car payment.
I don't see how this new ruling would affect me, but that may go back to me going while trying to read that article.

And from what I understand you will no longer have access to those images. ... I don't like that.

WTF? You need to change banks.

I don't believe that will be the case with all transactions.

All the checks will be scanned and kept on a data base. The only difference is that you will no longer receive the original checks back. You can aways request a photocopy of the original if you need it.

I don't get my checks back anyways. I just make sure my account is balanced both in my check book and online. No worries.

That is because you did not set up your account to receive the originals.

actually, no.
That was one of the features of the account when I opened it.
I actually thought it was a nice service offered by the bank because I have enough paper stored in my house and I don't need more.

I have a debit/checking account, the only time I write checks are for bills. I am happy to hear they will clear faster ... reason I like my debit card so much is because it withdraws or charges to the account immediately.

I am a victim of technology, rather than balance my checkbook I check my online banking for my history. When the funds clear faster I know better what I have in my account.

Unfortunately, I've had problems in the past. I've made a deposit on Friday, after business hours (after their cut-off for crediting deposits that same day), written a check later that same day, and because the deposit will not be credited until Monday, but the debit is listed on Saturday, my account has been overdrawn until I go in and show the bank that the funds really were there. I don't think the bank should be able to list a debit if they do not also list credits that same day. This seems unfairly biased against consumers and designed to extract fees from them.
