I'm working in the internal customer facing side of IT, so I get to visit people all over the various buildings all day long. Lots of walking.. Currently wearing some Doc Marten shoes to work and they're comfortable, but they feel heavy after walking around for 8 hours.

Looking for something a little bit lighter, comfortable to walk in all day long, black, looks good but not too dressy w/ khakis and a polo style shirt.. When winter comes, I'll still be walking outside (assuming I'm still working this contract), so some sort of textured sole is good.

Here's a couple I've found that I like, but still looking around:
http://www.zappos.com/n/p?p=122357&c=1654 - yes, Docs again, but these don't look as 'clunky' as my current shoes. I know how Docs fit me, so I feel comfortable buying them online.
http://www.zappos.com/n/p?p=110914&c=3 - Never tried Rockports, but I hear they're supposed to be comfortable. And these have a look that I like.

Any recommendations for me?

Rockports are very comforable and quite light, great shoes if you spend all day on your feet. My only complaint is that a lot of them are pretty ugly, but I guess its a small price to pay.

I don't know if you are planning to buy them online or were just window shopping, personally I wouldn't buy shoes without having tried them on first.

Agreed with the Rockport's. I've got some Roc's that are kinda heavy looking; but they're actually really light to wear all day. I had some Doc Marten's when I worked at Best Buy and they were awful to stand in all day. These Rockport's are awesome. I don't know the actual style of 'em, the say Rocs on them. They my Roca Wear kicks.

Little from column A, little from column B I've owned several pair of Docs so I know how they'll fit me. I'd feel comfortable buying them online. Besides, the folks that sell Docs around here mainly carry their trendier, clunkier stuff.. I buy running style shoes online because I'm quite familiar with how my favorite brands fit me.

Rockports and other brands.. I'd probably try to find a local retailer that at least sells the brand so I can see how the brand in general fits. If I can't find the exact model, that Zappos store has free shipping and free return shipping if they don't fit right.

How's about Clarks? People seem to be talking highly about them on Zappos.

I normally only wear leather soled dress shoes, my favorite brand is Allen Edmonds and I know they make some more comfortable casual shoes as well. Try Ecco as well. Both in the $200 range but the shoes hold up much better than Rockport/Dockers/Clarks shoes.

Most comfortable shoes are by Mephisto, sure they will run you $200+ but there comfort is unmatched by any other shoe company.

Nike, which owns Cole Haan, puts its AIR technology into a lot of the rubber soled shoes in the line-up, still pricey but in the $150 range and they look comfy, just a bit too casual for my taste.

Love my Blundstones. Aussie boots - leather, light, nice. A very classy boot if you ax me.

Yea, I think the Allen-Edmonds (and Mephisto) are a bit out of my price range. As rough as I am on shoes, I just can't justify spending that much. $150 would be my upper-upper limit.

I've tried on a pair of Eccos at a department store a year or two ago.. The salesman was trying to clear out that particular model for cheap. Comfortable, but didn't like the way they looked. The ones that I like the looks of on Zappos.com are too pricey.

I see a pair of Borns that look good to me and well priced. Don't much care for slipons.

Wearing my Ecco's right now (kind of Blundstone-looking, black pull-on boot). They're very light and comfy...got them at a great price at Ross.
