I am having a problem with my '00 CSVT that I am completely baffeled about. It started all of a sudden about 2-3 weeks ago, and continues to do so. When I am at WOT in 1st or second, the car starts bucking around 5000rpm. I can run the car to redline if not at WOT though. It did not seem to do anything bizarre in 3rd, but speed limits prevent a true test. The car is not modded at all, other than an optomized TB. Has anyone had similar problems, or know what could be causing this?

Does anyone have any ideas? Is this that rare of a problem, and stumping everyone?

How many miles do you have on it? Once it starts bucking, does it stop once you let off? Search for "fuel pump" problems and see if any of the symptoms sound similar. It's a pretty easy fix, if that's the problem.

Definately sounds like a fuel issue. Change the fuel filter first and see if that does it. If not, could be the pump or a sensor that is faulty. Try the fuel filter and come back, it's the cheapest and easiest.

Study this: http://www.contour.org/mods/mods.php?s=howto&displayid=39Look at the picture on the bottome of the page. The filter disc on the bottom of the fuel pump module is tto small and too fine. It plugs easily. Take it out and throw it away. You don't need it. There is still a conventional sock filter inside the pump module. At this point it should be mentioned that Focus and Cougar both have recalls for this exact problem, but Contour got left out. The Cougar uses the exact same fuel pump as your 200 Contour, it is a returnless system. Some have replaced the fuel pump with the Focus SVT pump. The Focus SVT pump can be purchased by itself, without the entire fuel pump module.

No, I had the EXACT same symtoms with mine a couple of months ago. You may not have noticed it, but it becomes more pronounced when you have under 1/2 tank of gas. It is definitely your fuel pump and it will continue to get worse. You can do it yourself and use the new FSVT pump which can be easily modded to work. If you have a mechanic replace it, however, they will insist on the stock pump due to the liability of altering a fuel pump. I replaced mine with the stock pump and it runs great now.

Thanks Big Jim. You certainly do know your stuff. I'll be pulling out my rear seat here soon. Thanks again.
