The best place to have it is smack dab in the middle of the windshield away from all metal surfaces. I sick mine higher up on the windshield, located to the left of the rear view mirror.

I have mine in the middle of the windshield with a very slight degree of tilt toward opposite traffic (as in my experience, that's where cops usually are, but I don't think that matter too much). I definitely have mine higher than most people but it works real real good so I'm happy.

upper driver side corner of the window... not the best for rear but works great for the front... except for the fact that the police now have a new laser (6" diamiter at 1000') got nailed the other day... simple cure... dont speed

I just recently got a cheap one. What is the main difference between a cheap one and an expensive one? Range?

http://www.radarsource.com/cobra-faq.htmOriginally posted by RadarSource.Com: Where should I mount my radar detector for maximum efficiency? Mount your radar detector in an area with an unobstructed view of the road ahead, and if equipped with a 360? Laser eye, a clear unobstructed view of the front, side and rear windows. Please note that vehicles such as vans without rear windows will not allow reception of the laser signal from the rear of the vehicle. For maximum efficiency do not mount the radar detector high up in the blue tinted area of the window or low down behind the windshield wipers as both of these areas will interfere with reception of radar and laser signals. For best operation it is recommend to mount the detector as low as possible at the windshield (while avoiding obstructions). It is also important that you mount the unit in a position where you can quickly view the display screen while not obstructing your view of the road ahead.
This is a manufacturer FAQ off the site above. This is where they recommend it, so it's where I put it. I used to have my old Whistler (really good detector, btw, too bad my friend that borrowed it while I didn't have my car broke it ) mounted right below the rear-view mirror on my old Grand Prix, didn't notice a difference between up there and right above the wipers on my Contour...

LMAO!! Kremit, that's hilarious. I hope you were kidding. I'm sure you know your X50 has 360 degree protection; how you tilt it is irrelevant.

360 degree protection is not a true statement. Actually the x50 does not have a rear sensor for radar, but because radar bounces, the front sensor will still catch it when the cop is close enough. It may be little/not better with my slight tilt, but you have a sensor, you point something at it, it should work better when the thing is directly pointed at it, right?
