I really like the styling of the Cobalt! I think it is clean, modern, and from what I've heard, the platform is rock solid. In fact, if I was going to buy a car in that Class, I'd probably consider the Cobalt and Mazda3 as my tow serious options. As for the engine, the Ecotech seems to be a vast improvement over the old Twin Cam, and anything that can milk more power, using less gas, and be better at emissions is ok with me!

As for the need for an american built, rear driver, w/ four doors. Go buy a Chrysler 300C

Cheers,
D

Srt4 also has a big aftermarket already and proven reliability, though I guess the cobalt ss could be a good alternative for those wanting to be different, even if it costs them a little more and they get a little less.

A loaded Cobalt SS is suppose to MSRP for 21k.

Which is just under what an SRT-4 goes for. (Base 21,500 IIRC)

The Ecotec has proven to be a stout engine. It's already set many records in land speed, drag racing, etc.

The SS has countless upgrades over a regular Cobalt. Not much of the powertrain is truly shared.

The only thing it does lack IMO is an LSD. Maybe they'll take Dodge's hindsight to heart and add one for the next model year.

Either way it's another domestic offering to trounce the imports.
I definitely agree Dodge set the bar very high with the SRT-4 though I seem to recall mentioning that before.

For ref - Estimated 1/4 for the SS is upper 14's.

BTW did you see the interior? That's not the typical GM car! Like it or hate it it looks like build quality of the interior is much better.

Get back to the thread, whatever it was...

Look buddy, you first post on this subject:
Quote:

Also, the GTP is supercharged, but really not any more powerful than my SVT when stock

is obviously wrong. A GTP IS more powerful than an SVTC, blk560 was politely pointing out that perhaps you really meant, or were inferring, the following
Quote:

Also, the GTP is supercharged, but does not really offer any more performance than my SVT when stock

.

From your latest post you evidently feel that power is synonymous with performance--an opinion that you are obviously entitled to but is far from accurate and completely untenable. Your comparison was totally wrong, yet someone else is the bad guy for pointing it out. Go you!

Thanks for explaining that again, buddy...Does anybody else still care? Or just you two?

Actually, that kinda bugged me too. Power is not the same as performance. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. The old 3800SC was 240 / 280. I believe the new one is 260 / 280? I almost got a GTP before I settled on the SVTC. Its downfall was, as has been mentioned, ATX and handling akin to a turd on a doorknob. It also seemed like all the GTPs I drove were starting to fall apart. I'd still love to find an old grandpa(ma)-owned Regal GS with that SC'ed 3.8 in it, though. There's a sleeper..

That Cobalt SS was at the Chevrolet display at the Woodward Dream Cruize, but didn't have those nice rims, it has some ugly, thick, squared off 5 spokes that were dark in color The center stack makes the interior look like ass IMO, but the door panels and seats being two-tone is VERY sharp. My only question is this, why doesn't it have more HP to compete with the SRT-4, its main rival in the market
