Amen! My APPs that were supposedly pre-gapped, were all off.

You mentioned you had Ford Racing wires....and you are having a rough idle problem....not making assumptions, but check the wires.

Mine were all off, too. Probably almost .01 between the most and least gap out of the box. And yes, I do have (and prefer) the wire feeler gauge.
I actually mentioned that I had Motorcraft (not Ford Racing) wires. They might be the same wires in a different box for all I know, but they are grey and 8mm. I will still check them, or I might just throw some Motorcraft plugs in it, see what happens.

Those POS gapper disc are garbage! They are not worth the metal they are stamped from.

The only thing I could possibly state to the contrary is plugs like the POS Bosch +2 or +4 style.

Agreed. I used to have a couple of old RX-7s, and the NGK plugs I put in those didn't look as if they could be gapped. Very strange looking plugs. Other than that, I've always gapped my plugs.

Edit: just found a picture of them. The second one from the right looks like what I put in my '85 with the 12A 1.1L carb'd rotary. link The ones that went in the '87 looked like one of those 3 prong deals to the left of that. They were extremely weird, due to the fact that there is a leading plug and a trailing plug, I believe because the combustion chamber is so wide. (Why do I feel like I just hijacked my own thread?)

"The only reason I thought I might post this is that I have about 20k on my Autolite double platinum plugs (APPwhatevers, I don't feel like going to the shed to get #s right now), and I am noticing very slight rough idle. The only time I notice this is when I am cruising in first at no throttle, as in traffic. I also replaced the wires at the same time as the plugs, with some Motorcraft (not Ford Racing) 8mm wires."

Check your plug wires (FMS 8mm's have exhibited some problems) and your fuel pump strainer screen.
