i owned a heavely modded 2000 kia sephia but i have sold it and i am looking to get onto a contour, all my friends have asked me why a contour, and since i saw the mondoes racing on speedvision years ago i have had a burning desire to own one.and now with the research that i have done here there is alot of things that i can do to a contour to make it fast as #ell and handel superberly...so this is the deal,i can't afford to own an svt,i would like to but most are priced way to high for what i am looking for.....so im not shure what model i should get,i live in eastern maine and i see contours alot, like 10 a day atleast so finding the right one should not be all that hard...i want to get a contour thats just a notch below the svt so if some one could please post up here and let me know which model this is and why that model is a notch below it would be greately appreciated...i have already contacted a member here who is selling his custom body kit for his contour,so i might end up with the body kit before i even get the car.lololi thikn i see a supercharger or turbo some time in the near future as welll.........

thanks alot guys

A notch below would be the 2.5L V6 SE. Go SVT though if you really want performance. 200HP (2000 model) opposed to 170HP for the SE. Stick a 3.0L engine in there and you'll be set.

hey thanks for the reply, nice mods..lolol

i would love an svt but the price is just not right,i can only spend like 4-5g on a used contour,im shure i could find an svt for that much but then i would have no $ to put into it,im figuring ill find one up here pretty cheap (2-4g)and start modding it right away with the extra cash that i have saved,i also would like to do something to the exterior that replicates the outside paint scheme of the mondeo that used to race in the british touring champaionship...just some ideas i have..

Then try to get a V6 5 speed. I loved my 95 SE, but I love my SVT even more . With all the mods you can do to a regular tour, you can get an SVT and just leave it alone and it will be fine.

As others have said, the closest you can get to an SVT without actually getting and SVT is a V6 SE with the 5 speed. Those tend to be a bit hard to find though as most non SVT's seem to be autos. Many consider the 95 SE to be the closest to the SVT because it has the stiffest stock suspension offered on a Contour (stiffer than SVT if I remember right) but a good 95 is probably harder to find, plus it's a lonely child in the Contour world as many small things are different. Things such as rod shift trans. instead of cable, OBD1 instead of OBD2, vac. opperated secondaries instead of electric....you get the idea. Also, if you haven't already, take a look at some of the vendors selling parts for these cars, you'll find they're not cheap, and quite frankly, for the money you don't get much gain from most of them. I probably have a little over a grand into performance upgrades on my car (SVT Upper and Lower intake manifolds and TB, CAI, Cat-back exhaust) and still don't make the same power as a stock SVT. If fast is what you want, you may want to research getting a 4 cyl car and slapping it with a turbo or somehting, check the Zetec section on that one, those guys know what's been discussed, I don't. Anyway, best of luck in your search and welcome to the CEG. Tons of great info and a decent number of helpful folk here too, plus the standard few jerks.

where do you live? i can't find svt's for under $6000 with less then 90,000 on them. finding an svt is tough too. that's why i settled for the mystique ls(same as the contour se i think) with the sport suspension and manual and all the other good stuff. it's amazing how much they hold their value
