As others have said, the closest you can get to an SVT without actually getting and SVT is a V6 SE with the 5 speed. Those tend to be a bit hard to find though as most non SVT's seem to be autos. Many consider the 95 SE to be the closest to the SVT because it has the stiffest stock suspension offered on a Contour (stiffer than SVT if I remember right) but a good 95 is probably harder to find, plus it's a lonely child in the Contour world as many small things are different. Things such as rod shift trans. instead of cable, OBD1 instead of OBD2, vac. opperated secondaries instead of electric....you get the idea. Also, if you haven't already, take a look at some of the vendors selling parts for these cars, you'll find they're not cheap, and quite frankly, for the money you don't get much gain from most of them. I probably have a little over a grand into performance upgrades on my car (SVT Upper and Lower intake manifolds and TB, CAI, Cat-back exhaust) and still don't make the same power as a stock SVT. If fast is what you want, you may want to research getting a 4 cyl car and slapping it with a turbo or somehting, check the Zetec section on that one, those guys know what's been discussed, I don't. Anyway, best of luck in your search and welcome to the CEG. Tons of great info and a decent number of helpful folk here too, plus the standard few jerks.
