The scorched earth policy on everything that the Conservatives on this board take in every one of these threads is so "cut and paste" by now that it just doesn't interest as many people anymore.

The Iraq war did and continues to do considerable harm to the image of the US military power around the world.
What do they see ? The mighty US military went into a situation and unable to get out of it. They won't question whether the reason is that there aren't enough tanks or the commanders in charge are incapable of making a good plan to win. It doesn't matter.
After Serbia, the 1st Iraq war, and after the really spectacular Afghan campaign the US military had the image of a kind of invincibility.
This image was smashed with the pictures of ragtag insurgents victory-marching on the streets of Najaf and Fallujah after forcing the US army to leave their cities.
The Iraq war has proved that the US military power can be resisted, even without the backing of another superpower. (like in Vietnam)

Perhaps, but really I can't think of a positive reason to count the dead. It is either a morbid fascination or an attempt to use a number as a threshold that should disgust us. I don't need a number to be grateful for the efforts and sacrifices of our soilders and their families. History will count the dead and judge our efforts, for better or worse.
The cut and pasters have a lot of time on thier hands, I don't read half of it, either.
BTW, last week's protesters might be a bunch of "Communists"...one of the NY papers did a survey of the GOP Convention protesters, and the dominant political philosophy was "socialist". Did you notice the lack of pro-Kerry signs carried by the marchers?

That's laughable. You may not have seen it on TV, but we invaded Iraq in three weeks. There is a small insurgency being coordinated by small "militia" groups. I wouldn't call that resistance. Resistance would have been if they had stopped us at the borders or even on the outskirts of the major cities.
