The new Autoweek is claiming that Ford has officially announced that the Mondeo will come to the US as a Mercury, probably in 2004.
The other announcement is that Ford of Europe has formed a group called SVE (Special Vehicle Engineering), which is their equivalent of SVT in the US. The group's charter is to build high-performance versions of Ford's production cars, mainly the Focus and Mondeo. So wouldn't it be nice if Mercury imports the SVE-modified Mondeos to the US?
Who knows, we may end up with a next-gen Contour SVT yet :-)

We are quoting powertrain software for a 2004 Mercury Mondeo. Nothing's official, but production looks likely.

Well my son will have drivers ed by summer of 2003 and then I can turn over my '96 to him, so maybe I'll be looking at a new 2004 mercury mondeo (or whatever they call it) in fall of 2003.

Damn, this is going to be a hard decision, since I don't get out of college until 2005. I was planning on buying my parents SuperCrew at that time, I guess I may have to wait!!!!! This is a good problem to have!

There is just a lot of paperwork involved that far outweighs the coding. Our department has a an RFQ for this 2004 US Mondeo. They want a first cut of the software (and engine control module) in July, but we are in the RQF stage now. Since all of our baseline code comes from Ford (I work for Visteon), there are a couple different solutions for this program with integrating Ford's code and our own work. Anyway, that's about all I know about the '04 Mondeo. Aaron
