I just traded my 96 zetec in, they gave me $700 for it (I paid $2K 2 yrs ago this month). I had significant valve tap (sounded like an old diesel), same oil thru breather tube problem, every bushing on suspension was gone, tranny leaking, valve cover leaking, etc.
If you can believe me, I traded it in probly 100x better condition when I bought it. I know I sunk more than $3K into it just to keep it running. A lemon car will drain you pretty good and still just be on the verge of breaking down.

I forgot to mention that it's a CNG vehicle. Is that gonna hurt or help me to try to sell it?

What you should do is look for one of them specials where they offer you $2000 for your trade, regardless of condition. Usually those are on new cars, but it is my opinion that buying NEW is better anyways. You'll have a nice warranty, plus there are so many incentives out right now you're good. If you get a '04 Focus, you get $3000 cash back.. and they start at around $13. You can get a better financing rate/term, and a warranty.

ummm... CNG... Personally, I've never seen a gas station that sells CNG. I'm guessing you'd have to sell it around larger areas. Like around Iowa, no CNG (that I know of), so it would have [censored] for value.
I'd say try to sell at about the same price as a regular one.
