I've had my contour for almost two years now. It's a 1996 gl atx (4 banger). Well, throughout those 2 years, my car has declined astheticly. Some were my fault and some were not. Here's the problem, do i fix her up or do i get something else. If I were to fix her it would probably mean a new trunk lid, new front and rear bumpers, a new passenger side mirror and O rings (i think). With the o rings, i switched to synthetic oil a while back and started losing oil. I switched back to regular oil but everytime i accelerate hard, oil comes out of the breather tube. Think i should fix her up or try to get the most money with the condition it's in and get something else?

Replacing o-rings would increase oil consumption. It's pretty much a proven fact that if you don't hone the cyliner walls replace the cylinders and do the o-rings you'll end up with more oil burn.

What makes you believe that is what is causing the brun anyway?

thats what i've been told that was most likely the culprit. It's not even really burning oil, it's blowing out of the breather tube upon hard acceleration.

Sell it and get something newer. If oil is coming out of the breather tube you have some significant problems in your engine. When my last car did that it was the piston rings = overhaul = big bucks. Check the compression in each cylinder and if one or more is low that is likely the culprit.

Its a '96 base model, value in good running condition is around $2K, yours sounds real bad, body wise and engine wise.

Get your $500 and move on.
