The question I have is does the FOcus "smart pump" have the revise pickup to eliminate the fuel starvation under hard cornering/WOT? I was told that there is a revised contour svt fuel pump assembly. Which one will eliminate that problem? -tropictour

You just pop in a the FSVT pump into the same ol' assembly, so it's not a different pickup.
Texas - why did he have the tank out? I pulled my back seat out (ala CEG how-to).

Yeah and remember to remove the disc screen at the base of the pump unit so it doesn't clog again.

Since this thread is started kind of off topic, but Ive to ask. I got my oil changed the other day at 51,000 miles. The dude told me I MAY need a fuel filter because its the original one he said. I bought the car at 29k. He said they get changed every 30k or so. I said well...can u tell me if its needed or not. He said he couldnt unless they did it altogether. I dont like getting "con'ed" into something right there n then at shops unless its really needed. Can anyone tell me what they think?

Just replace the fuel filter yourself. If your car is not lowered and you are not that big you can do it in about 5 mins with simple hand tools.

Its next to the tank, under the car, in front of the rear wheel.
10 minutes a screwdriver and a filter is all you need.
I changed Antonios filter at a gas station in 5 minutes, after SZ'02

That's the way it is supposed to be done. Drop the tank so you can clean it out to remove sediment, water etc. Otherwise the filter on the pump will clog again in about 20K. Plus I was too lazy to pull the back seat out and do it myself.

Because they can charge more labor if they drop the tank, duh.
The Ford techs are going to do it exactly the way its listed in the manual. There is no free thinking on there part(hence why Texas couldn't get his FSVT pump installed).

Do a search. I posted the instructions on the FSVT pump installation a few months back. Resurfaced recently.
