I just don't see people ordering these things new from 95-97 thinking that they were total performance machines. Id say more along the lines of economy vehicles with half descent highway passing power. Then again, there are probably 10 people on here total that bought their pre 98 brand new. I bought my SVT new in 2000 and yes, I bought it to have fun with, along with get descent gas mileage.

Ok evidently you didn't read any of my previous posts or Im just not being clear. First off, did you buy your car new? If so, Im sure you are one of the 10 I mentioned before. If not, then you are still one of the elite bunch of people that are on CEG with a pre-98 and actually beat on your car. The chances of a 20 year old kid going out in 1996 to buy a BRAND NEW Contour to hot rod around in is probably slim to none. Id imagine most of them would have thought a V6 Mustang would give more performance than a Contour. This leads me to my original reason for posting in this thread, that the people that bought these Contours new from 95-97 were "for the most part" not buying them for abuse.

What does buying it new have to do with anything? Abuse is abuse. No pre-98 diff has blown up at all, yet they are still driven hard.
Therefore, pre-98 diff > 98+ diff, which is what I beleive we've been trying to get at from the beginning.

My point is that there were probably 100,000(guess) pre 98 Contours built. Of that, there are how many on the CEG? We are basing numbers on what we know of the diffs blowing. Im stating that of the 100,000+ pre 98 Contours built, Id be willing to bet that there are not even 1000 that put their cars through daily vigerous abuse. And of that 1000, not everyone will break their diff.. Maybe a handful.. So yes, it would appear that the pre 98 diff is stronger.. Now the Post 98s, this includes every year of SVT Contour, and of the ~11,000 SVTs built, Id be willing to bet, a good majority of those get ragged on(such as mine) and are more susceptible to breaking.

No pre-98 diff has blown??? Wow, I'd like to see that on paper. Is it the perfect differential? They should put it in all cars.

Good point, I'll just sell my Quaife that I bought on a whim and just buy a pre-98 diff.. How could I be so stupid?

And it just keeps getting dumber..., what are you guys like 12?
As far as I and others know, there have been no pre98 MTXs to blow a diff on this forum. From comments Terry has made it sounded like the pre98 diff may have been a stronger part, but I did qualify my comments with "I'm sure you could break it if you try".
WTF is the big argument over????? Is it that hard to beleive that the diff problems most commonly seen on the 98+'s may just be from ford getting cheap on parts?
Ever wonder why after all those years of MTX-75 production this TSB wasn't issued till Jul 99, and is NOT listed as a TSB for MY97?
99-14-8 JUL 99 M/T - MTX 75 Vehicle Will Not Move
Any of you remember that the fix in this TSB was to install a revised diff?
hmmmmmmm....

Well I hate to not exsist on the forums but I guess that is the case. I had my Dif blow. And that was in my 95se MTX. Maybe a more accurate statment would be. Very few Zetec MTX's of all years have their difs break.
