In my long struggle to find and fix a problem that causes the CEL to illuminate (long story, see my previous posts), I have set course to find a vacuum leak. Using my vacuum pump, all lines hold a vacuum, except the VMV (Vapor Management Valve). This "valve" is mounted to the firewall and has connections to the PCV valve and also a connection to the fuel tank vapor cannister. So naturally, I bought a new one (~$47). I installed it and guess what, it doesn't hold a vacuum either. I decided that maybe this device doesn't hold a vacuum itself, rather it is just a "pass-through" device and the lines to the PCV and the fuel tank should hold a vacuum. So I tested each. Neither holds a vacuum, or at the very least, I cannot generate enough vacuum with my hand pump to make it register. Anyone have any advice on this?
This is on a 98 SVT that sometimes has a rough idle and occassionally throws a 0420 and 0430 and prior to that had thrown 1131 and 1151. All things point to a vacuum leak.

A vacuum leak will sometimes make a high pitch noise. To locate where the leak is you can hold a piece of water hose to your ear and move it around until the leak is found. Cracked vacuum hoses or a leaking intake manifold are some common sources for vacuum leaks.

You arent going to get any replies unless you say what type of engine you have as the diagrams are different by a lot.

Hold on it here it was started by BryanJ, STA said he has a vacuum leak and didnt say what engine he has. So we are suppoused to assume he has a SVT because an eariler poster has one?
You need to calm down.

Ah but a 10 second search of another thread of his and you would've known STA has a 98 contour 2.5 SE (5 spd)
The reason, you can click on someones name and view all users posts.

Unless he edited his original message, it looks like he did state he had a 98 SVT.
