topic sums it up just wondering if this is true I saw an add for a fuel cooler in summit and have seen some drag racers putting dry-ice in there fuel cells.

Denser air is easier,'car runs stronger on a damp misty day ' = water injection.cooling the fuel on a road car can impair the atomisation of the fuel, rembember it has to mix with air and not spray, cooling the fuel, methanol etc is not the same as pump gas.Its connected with the latent heat and volitility of the fuel.

We sell these where I work as well, infact we have a cooler on our 800 gallon Menthanol tank outside. Supposedly the reason behind it is methanol likes to "collect" water molecules as it approaches ambient air temp, so the cooler it remains the less likely it is to get water in it making the fuel as pure as possible.

Now its been a few years since my Race Fuel Handling Course (Yes, there is such a thing and it used to be required by the company I work for) so my wording above might not be totally accurate... you know how memory starts to go after awhile!

Terry, care to set me straight on this?

Like brake fluid 'hygoscopic' I think is the term, absorbes water

I may be wrong but I think the term is Hydroscopic.

Professor mode on:

The term is hygroscopic or deliquescent.
It refers to a substance that readily absorbs moisture (water vapor) from air. Cooling hygroscopic materials reduces the hygroscopic tendancies and "enhances" storage by minimizing moisture content.

As far as I know, hydroscopic is not a scientific term. If it were it would refer to substances that readily absorb water in the liquid state as opposed to the vapor state.

I'm not talking about a drastic decrease in temp more of what looks like a radiator or oilcooler thing they sell in summit that I could put in line after the fuel pump under the car. can't be that advanced for $69. just thought I could combat my hot air intake charge

Even if you manage to get a maximum heat exchange of ten degrees, the rate of heat exchange of sprayed fuel inside the port to the combustion changer would be negated. Remember, even with a fresh charge of cold air, the fuel mist is so fine that the heat would travel through ti quickly, regardless of a 10 degree temperature change. Also the distance from the port to the chamber, the immense heat remaining in the chamber from the last combustion also be contributing factors that would negate the heat exchanger. Save your money, even if there is enough temperature change to reduce the temperature of the fuel the change would be tiny as well as the performance gain.
