The latest fashion in the Twin Cities metro is government thinking they know more about how people manage their private property than the owners do.
Bloomington (a large suburb) and Minneapolis have passed smoking bans for bars and restaurants while a restaurant ban is being considered for Ramsey County and St. Paul (which is in Ramsey County).
This is another case of the government thinking they know more than the free markets and makes me want to light up (I don't smoke) just to protest.
Let the customers and workers decide where they want to work and hang out. If there is such a demand for non-smoking venues, the market should have already determined that by offering more smoke free places. I am not seeing any groundswell of pent up demand for requiring all places to be smoke free, and I resent government's intrusion in the property rights of individuals.
