I got that number last night in one of the speeches, and no commentary refuted it afterwards. I guess I should have said 3/4 of the officers on the Al-Quaida most wanted list have been captured or killed.
As for Bush, of course he could have done better. I am not going to say he did everything perfectly. He is human, after all.

mbTDI, can't let it lie, hm? Looks like you'd prefer to argue facts and hurl insults rather than share opinions. Very well, let's toss out some facts; but I refuse to degrade the quality of this discussion and hurl insults as you seem to enjoy. Originally posted by mbTDI: That makes PERFECT sense... b!tch and moan because you actually got money back, something that NEVER would've happened under Gore. Who cares what they label it?
I do care. That's why I vote. Thank goodness one of us is psychic, so we all know what Gore would've done.

Uh-oh, I sense an edumacation coming on. Let me guess: since nobody understands the way the world works, you must be the only one. Am I right? ...And, of course, anyone with a different opinion is simply 'unedumacated', because obviously anyone intelligent would hold the exact some opinions that (coincidentally) you do, right?

Ahh yes, that. Well, true, it's there and we haven't officially gotten rid of it, but if you'll recall why it was formed, we really shouldn't be using it in the modern world. But, that's a different subject.

Thank God someone cleared that up for me. All figurehead-related discussions aside, I'm unclear as to when this got called into question in this discussion.
Originally posted by mbTDI: supreme court ensures that America has said President...
I can see instances when there might be a need for this, considering that the US Supreme Court was founded to decide cases of federal law or Constitutional issues. However, there's also this concept of "checks and balances" to consider, which is the framework on which our government was originally formed. I still believe it's a good idea, and it becomes a sticky situation here. Since federal Supreme Court justices are appointed by the President, asking the federal Supreme Court to rule on a Presidential election is really pushing the limits of what's allowable under the system of checks & balances. Despite the fact that they're judges, Supreme Court justices are hardly unbiased ΓΆβ?¬β?? which is why they are hand-picked by Presidents. Were the justices elected by the nation as a whole, it would be less of an issue.

Where on earth are you getting your number from...? A two-minute Internet search will show you that Gore won the popular vote by 543,895 votes. By the electoral college (which I still say is obsolete) votes, Bush won by 5 votes, 271-266.
I'm not seeing a 537-vote victory anywhere. Again, where are your numbers from?

Thanks, I think 7-1/2 years of college was enough for now. I'll go back again eventually, but I'd like a rest first.
I'm curious, do you ever find yourself thinking that everyone but you is an idiot, simply because they don't see things your way...?
Tell you what. Come to the Detroit meet next month and we can chat about this whole thing more over a beer. Heck, I'll buy the first round.

I got one:
Patriot Act
Quite simply, the most intrusive, rights abolishing legislation ever signed by a President into law. There's nothing patriotic about it whatsoever. And Bush wants it renewed again because of the inherent time limit -- remember the State of the Union address?
I'm not excited about any of the 'choices' for President.

But..., would this Act have passed, let alone come into exsistance had 9/11 not happened. Being in the mortgage business, I have to deal with parts of this Act on a daily basis. One of the results of this Act has been a greater ability to catch Identity Theft and Mortgage Fraud. This, in turn has allowed many Mortgage companies price down to create an even lower interest rate (granted it is only by an eigth to one quarter point), but it has improved your mortgage rate none the less.

I never said the electoral college wasn't obsolete, it is. That's another discussion.
I won't make the Detroit meet, but I'm happy to debate politics with you any time. Who knows... maybe I'll buy you a round over the phone.
