I have a weird problem with the manual transmission. Sometimes, when I start the engine, I try to get into 1st gear but I can't. It's the same with all the others gears. Then I shut down the engine, pump about 20 times the clutch, then everyting is fine, I can shift into all gears!

I've already bleeded the hydraulic system to clear some air bublles in the brakes fluid which his the same of the clucth but the problem is still there!! A mechanic tested to master cylinder and said that it was ok. Any idea??

Thank you

I have had the same problem for many years on my 98 SVT. So far, I've had the MTX-75 replaced and a new clutch master cylinder. The dealer (who is very helpful, by the way) says that it's probably the clutch pressure plate. On mine, the new fluid was installed from the factory and the dealer flushed it again and put new fluid in, but the problem still exists. Jason Bonner (a member here) says he thinks it is a problem with either the master cylinder or the slave. I don't think so, because I can pump the clutch pedal till the cows come home and the transmission won't shift. . I'm probably going to switch to Redline and add friction modifier to see if that helps. I read somewhere in the archives that the problem is galling of shifter fork bearings in the MTX. Also, I thought there was someone who knew how to repair this, but IO couldn't find the archive that mentioned who it was.
